Basic Information:
Team: LSU Tigers
Conference: SEC
Position: Wide Receiver
Class: Senior
Age: 20
Height: 6'1
Weight: 200 lbs.
2019 Stats (Opted out of the season due to COVID-19):
14 games
84 receptions (6 per game)
1,780 receiving yards (127.1 per game)
20 receiving touchdowns (1.4 per game)
Strengths:
- Great speed; runs a 4.4 forty yard dash
- Really good at making catches on 50/50 balls
- Great at beating press man coverage
- Has enough fluidity to dip his shoulders and make crisp breaks on out routes and double moves
- Does a good job of stacking cornerbacks
- When corners press him, he’s able to use his hands and arms to create separation and gain an advantage
- Has a diverse and versatile route tree
- Although his athletic prowess is his biggest strength, he is a really good route runner who utilizes different releases off the line of scrimmage to get open
- His collegiate production was historically good
Weaknesses:
- Has the size and strength to be a good blocker, but he doesn’t shine in this department
- His height and weight will be considered around average in the NFL
- He isn’t stiff by any means, but he isn’t extremely fluid like Justin Jefferson or Jerry Jeudy and that could limit him as a route runner
Role:
X/Outside receiver
Overview
Ja'Marr Chase is a versatile receiver who can beat press man coverage on go and fade routes while also being able to attack the middle of the field on slants and crossers. He can line up as the X or H receiver and attack defenses in many different ways. His physical tools combined with his nuanced route running make him one of the best wide receiver prospects in recent memory and I believe he can be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
