The Four Best Fits for Tom Brady

NFL free agency kicks off on March 16th and this looks to be one of the most exciting free agencies in recent memory. The biggest story line of free agency this year is Tom Brady's pending decision. Will he stay in New England or will he leave the franchise he’s spent his entire hall of fame career with and sign a lucrative contract elsewhere? Here are four teams I believe are the best fits for the 42-year-old quarterback.
1. San Francisco 49ers
This is easily the best fit for Tom Brady. The 49ers are elite on both sides of the ball and dominated with an elite defense and a great run-first offense on their way to the super bowl last year. San Francisco's defense is amazing, but what makes this team perfect for Tom Brady is what they have on offense which was the best run offense last season. San Fran has a ton of weapons on offense that Tom Brady missed having last season in New England. Brady would have a field day with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Emmanuel Sanders, and the running back trio of Matt Breida, Tevin Coleman, and Raheem Mostert at his disposal. It wouldn’t even be an issue to incorporate Tom Brady into this offense, because at this stage in his career, Brady needs to be in a west coast offense so he doesn’t have to throw the ball deep down the field and do things that he just can’t do athletically. The 49ers’ third-ranked defense is the icing on the cake and solidifies the 49ers as the best fit for Tom Brady. Obviously it might not make sense for the 49ers to part ways with 28-year-old Jimmy Garoppolo to sign Tom Brady for only year or two, so they may not want to make a quarterback change. However, I think Brady improves their chances of winning a super bowl and they should at least consider going after the future hall of famer.
2. Tennessee Titans
This is an interesting fit. The Titans knocked the Patriots out of the playoffs in the divisional round and went on a tear through the AFC championship with a few dominant performances by Derrick Henry and a good showing by their defense. Tennessee comes in at number two behind San Francisco because they’re receivers and defense as a whole are worse. A.J Brown and Corey Davis aren’t bad by any means, but they’re not as good as Kittle, Sanders, and Samuel. The one advantage the Titans have over the 49ers is their running back. Derrick Henry looked like the best running back in football in the playoffs and is looking to get paid like it. He would take a lot of pressure off of Tom Brady and limit the load he has within the offense. Another reason the Titans are a good fit for Brady is their defense which was pretty good last year, especially against the run. The Titans defense stepped it up in the playoffs, shutting down every quarterback they faced except for Patrick Mahomes, and depending on what happens in free agency and the draft, it may get even better. Also, Mike Vrabel, a former Patriot, is their head coach so that’s also a plus.
3. New England Patriots
Although I think Tom Brady is going to leave the Patriots, I believe they are the third-best fit for him. The reason why I don't think Brady returns to New England is because his relationship with Bill Belichick, but nevertheless, I still think they're a good fit for him. There were a lot of issues with the Pats last year that led to them falling apart in the playoffs including Brady’s play and the lack of weapons’ on their offense, but I think they are 100% fixable. Brady and the Patriots had a ton of success at the beginning of the season when Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown were still on the team, so I think the lack of talent in their receiving core is the main reason why the Patriots' offense was so poor in the second half of the season and the playoffs. If the Patriots use free agency to retool their offense a bit and add some weapons to help out their aging quarterback, I don’t see why he wouldn’t return to a team he’s been with for his entire 20-year career whose system he knows inside and out.
4. Chicago Bears
This team hasn’t been talked about much during this Tom Brady free agency frenzy, but I think this is a really good fit. The Bears have a defense that’s been really good for the last few years, but the team hasn’t had any playoff success due to quarterback Mitch Trubisky playing like crap, causing their offense to underperform. Adding Brady would drastically improve the Bears’ offense with an offensive guru in Matt Nagy calling the shots. They would need to add a receiver with the release of Taylor Gabriel, but signing Brady would make the Bears a super bowl contender.
This Tom Brady free agency frenzy has been fun so far and I expect it to get absolutely insane as free agency begins. One similarity between all these teams is they have a good defense and at least solid receiving threats (besides the Patriots) and I don't see Brady signing with a non-contender which is why the Colts and Raiders aren't listed. Colts and Raiders fans, please stop crying and just face it, Brady isn't coming to your team. I can't wait to see where Tom Brady signs, because it will enrage a few fan bases and turn one team into a championship contender.
